Technical Pro SUB-1501X Carpeted 1500 Watt Passive Subwoofer (Black) Review

I've only used these for two gigs/three nights so far, but they got the job done. Powering them with just 250wRMS, so haven't even really pushed them hard. One early concern is the pole sockets. At the first gig, I mounted powered 15" Behringer B215A's (43lbs.) atop 44" poles, and the sockets made a disturbing amount of creaking/cracking noises. More accurately, the 'wood' (using the term loosely) that the sockets are screwed into made the unsettling noises. They were much better at the second gig, where I had them stacked on top of their powered siblings (T-pro X-treme15's) and only used 24" poles (less leverage on the sockets). Still, I'm thinking about adding reinforcing plates on the inside of the cab to improve the load distribution (and hopefully extend the lifespan of these cabs). For under $200, though, they're a pretty good value.

We have no amps on stage and rely totally on our monitor mix to give us the "feel" of our music. Our bass player loves the sound (and everyone knows bass players are anal about big sound!). We use these sub bins as side fills, reinforcing the 15" seismic audio wedges in front of us. They are relatively light and handle the power we give them... what more can you ask for?

bought these speakers on a different account for use as stage monitors for a local High School. Overall I am really impressed with the quality. Would consider buying another pair if needed. Also you get 2 speakers which is an amazing deal. However would only recommend these for monitors not for regular PA speakers. I am genuinely impressed. Also just to add extra info the also have an output built into the speakers.

KRK K10S Powered Subwoofer - 10 Inch, 225 Watts Review

KRK K10S Powered Subwoofer - 10 Inch, 225 Watts
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this subwoofer as part of a 'system' (which includes 2 KRK RP8 speakers) for my Korg M3 Keyboard Workstation. I was using my old computer speakers until I got this setup. This subwoofer is impressive, however, I must say my days of having 'golden ears' is long gone. Too many years of exposure to loud sounds (concerts, guitars, motorcycles) and age (51) means I don't have the kind of ears that are particularly discriminating. However, the new keyboard needed a sound system that covered lots of frequencies, the bottom end in particular. I looked into a lot of 'studio monitor' systems, and decided that KRK offered the best options in terms of price/performance. I also must admit that I didn't audition any speakers by listening. It was purely a documentation type review. That said, I'm thrilled with what I've got. The subwoofer has a volume control (which needs to be barely cracked off zero to create a balanced sound with the RP8s), and a variable crossover frequency, to allow a good mix with the other monitors (again, this is something someone with good hearing could take advantage of, which I don't; I left the crossover at 130Hz, the top end). KRK offers a tool which is said to create optimized settings for any room, but I didn't see a need for that. You WILL need cables, though, 4 total, two from the mixer/keyboard, and two more from the subwoofer to the other monitors. The nice thing about KRK is that they provide a number of different options for those connections, at least the input to the subwoofer (only XLR or RCA on the output side of the subwoofer). The input to the subwoofer can be XLR, 1/4" (like a regular guitar/amp cord) or even standard RCA (stereo type) cables, those these latter are unbalanced (which essentially means that a long run may end up being noisy, since there is no shielding in this kind of cable). I used old guitar cables at first, while I waited for my the XLR cables which I ordered from Amazon to get here. I'd be lying if I told you that I could tell any difference between the types of cables, sonically. They are equally secure in terms of solidity of connection. Still, if you want the best possible performance, get XLRs.
I'm very happy with this unit. I've read that it puts out 150 watts, and other places say 225, and I'm too lazy to look up the details in the product documentation. Suffice to say, the power is ridiculous, and would, I believe, easily fill a small concert venue. In my office, a 10'x12' room with cathedral ceiling and hard floor, it's way overkill. In fact, with the 8" drivers of the main monitors (the RP8s), I may have been able to get away without the subwoofer. However, because of the synthesizer portion of the keyboard, I definitely wanted to take advantage of the low end it can produce. The K10S definitely fills that part of the sonic spectrum for me. KRK used to make a 12" subwoofer, with even more wattage, which is what I wanted originally, but the K10S is more than I need as it is,
You have the option to remove the grill, to expose the really cool yellow rimmed speaker cone, but probably not a good idea; the grill provides protection (but the RP8 monitors come without grills; they are an extra cost option). One other thing, if, like me, you like to keep things 'clean', the subwoofer doens not come with a cover. I had one made, to keep the dust off.
Overall, highly recommended.

The KRK K10S powered subwoofer is designed to extend the low frequency portion so your mix can be properly engineered. The K10S cabinet has radically curved surfaces for a great look and amazing performance. The front-firing bass port and KRK's trademark yellow glass-aramid composite woofer ensure accurate and powerful low-end punch. A sturdy grill which is removable protects the woofer and adds to the sleek appearance of the unit. A high power amplifier and active crossovers provide smooth and accurate reproduction. To accommodate any studio environment, the K10s has RCA, 1/4 inch (balanced/unbalanced) or XLR inputs for all your input options.

A New Standard in Low Frequency Monitoring For years, KRK subwoofers have been the choice for accurate low frequency monitoring in studios large and small. Now, the K10s provides a new standard for even better performance and accuracy, raising the bar once again. Whether you are mixing in a 2.1 or 5.1 surround environment or just looking to upgrade the low-frequency extension of your existing monitors, the K10s will provide the low frequency detail and accuracy that will help you to create a better mix. Let's Be Up Front Take a look at competitive subwoofer monitors and you'll find ports on the back of the cabinet. These rear-firing ports tend to create bass coupling with walls and corners over-amplifying low frequency information which in turn colors your mix. The superior design of the KRK10s includes front-firing ports which are just the right shape to reduce port turbulence. You'll appreciate the clean and accurate bass performance this approach delivers, even at high SPLs. Feel the Bass You need to feel the bass and our proprietary signature yellow woofer delivers tight, clear low end response. Our engineers and listening panel took the K10s speaker voicing to even more accurate levels. Featuring a sweepable 50 Hz – 130 Hz low pass filter, your K10s provides flexible control for any monitoring system. What you hear is what you are intended to hear, coloration is not part of the spec. This performance is brought to you by drivers that are custom-designed by our world-class studio monitor engineering team, for a clear, low-distortion performance. Take Control Professional engineers like the ability to hear how the sub is affecting the mix. Your KRK subwoofer is equipped with a bypass feature which allows you to defeat the sub and provide full range audio to your recording monitors. To use the bypass function, you will need to use a standard latching 1/4 mono footswitch.

I ordered this monitor on a Wednesday, on Friday I had it in my hot, little hands! It arrived in perfect condition, very well packaged(not a mark on it), excellent craftsmanship. When I connected it up, that's when the magic happened, it was as clear as a bell & had plenty of punch.........AWESOME SOUND! I'll be buying another pair along with a set of dual 12" mains to replace my aging line arrays. If anyone has any doubt about buying these, take it from a musician with 35+ yrs experience, they are top-notch quality. Thanks Seismic.....be sending a lot of business your way.

I own two of these subs and are MORE than satisfied! The bass is tight and punchy, but they can go low if you want them to. Make sure you use a crossover with a 24db slope and a good sound processor. I use a Behringer DSP 1424P sound enhancer and a BBE Max X3 crossover...GREAT SOUND!!!!!!!! Also the JRX118S has a 4ohm impedance, so make sure your amp is stable at 4ohms stereo. If are using one amp and are running two subs on one channel and your full range speakers on the other, make sure that your amp is stable at 2ohms. I recommend QSC amps!! These subs are complete over-achievers for the price!!!!!!

They are 8 rubber feet. 8, may I add, for the price of 4 everywhere else. I lost a "foot" to my subwoofer. Replaced all of the feet with these, and it's stable and steady. The other four? Never know when I'll need them.

This speaker handles the wattage rated. I run a pair with a NADY 2100 amp.I am using a sound enhancer to boost the bass response. Without it the speakers don't have the presence or "punch"I desire. For the price this speaker is an unbelievable value. The weight of these speakers (70lbs) also makes transporting easy.

VocoPro SUB-1500 200W 15-inch Powered Subwoofer Review

VocoPro SUB-1500 200W 15-inch Powered Subwoofer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I missed having the control of a powered subwoofer, so when this Vocopro went on sale before Christmas I jumped on it. My wife shook her head wondering why I bought it, but even she noticed the difference immediately. I had been using a Panasonic blueray 7.1 surround system with a passive subwoofer. Even on he lowest setting the bass was overly boomy. The variable crossover and volume control makes it very flexible.
I bought the sub mainly to augment a couple of 8 inch Pyle DJ speakers for the occasional music/sound gig I do for a local ski/social club. But once I got the sub unpacked, I found it fit perfectly where the Panasonic sub had been. With only 200 watts and 15 inch driver, it's not a professional DJ sub. But it works well mated to a pair of small cube speakers from the Panasonic system, plus the center channel speaker from the same system. Now I use an older AV Receiver with a sub output in a 3.1 sound system, and it sounds better than ever.
I ended up moving the blueray system to another room, and used the passive subwoofer, 2 more cube speakers, and an extra center channel speaker I had. I don't even use the full range "tower" speakers that came with the system.
I haven't used the subwoofer yet for one of my sound gigs, but I'm pretty sure it will work great. It'll be easy to move given the built in handles and reasonable weight. If I keep using the AV receiver, I'll set it up to send signals < 100 hertz to the sub and over 100 to the Pyle speakers. Even though the Pyles are rated to 50 hertz, I figure they'll sound even better if I don't push them to their limits.
Update: April 9, 2011
Used the Vocopro sub last night with my Panasonic AV receiver and Pyle 8 inch speakers on Pyle Stands. See my review under the PADH879 product. I think the sound was pretty good given it was my first time using this combination. I set the main speakers to "small" and left the subwoofer crossover setting on the receiver at 100 hertz--the lowest available. In a perfect world, it probably would be better to have smaller mains (6 1/2" maybe) with higher minimum frequency range than the 50 hertz minimum on the Pyle 8 inch. There are some sub/satellite speaker packages available in the $500 range that are better matched than my set up. If I did it all over again, that is the way I'd go.
Still, my set up seemed to fit the venue last night. Even though the sound level where I was seemed loud, the level on the dance floor was pretty good. I think you need a certain level of volume and "presense" to envelope the dancers in sound. Maybe it's just me, but I think it feels weird being on the dance floor when the music is too "thin". Despite the ample sound on the dance floor, the level quickly dropped off. This allowed the people at the bar and beyond to hold fairly normal conversations without losing their voices by the end of the evening.
I would highly recommend to small clubs and organizations to invest in their own music systems. It cost our club about $200 to rent a system that was overkill for our venue. A dj usually runs close to $300, and even small bands cost $400 to $650. If your club is like ours, attendance at meetings and even membership levels in general are depressed. I think we had 40 to 45 people last night at $5 a head. With that attendance level, it's tough to breakeven using the rental option. An investment in a small sound system and a volunteer to act as DJ is a viable option.

Behringer B1800X Pro 1600-Watt 18' PA Subwoofer Review

I purchased this sub as a backup in our club. We have 2 JBL 18" Subwoofers for our main system. While one speaker was getting fixed we ordered the Behringer 18" subwoofer. This speaker sounds really good. We are driving it with a Yorkville Amp, that puts out 1250 watts at 8 ohms per channel. It is more than this sub can handle, but it handles it without a problem. Box is large and might not be great for a mobile DJ, but ok for a band or permanent installation.

I purchased 2 PPA-15s to replace OEM DJ speakers. The construction and quality seem to be very good and the sound is not bad. Though the sound quality could be better.... for a DJ.... you really wouldn't notice, unless you are playing to a room full of no one.I would, and have purchased this again, Very good product and at the price it fits my DJ budget. Both times purchasing this product I choose super-saver (free) shipping and received the product in about 5 days to Virginia, you can't beat the Amazon FREE SHIPPING. Hope this helps

Pyle PASW15 Stage Speakers Review

Pyle PASW15 Stage Speakers
Average Reviews:

I took a chance and bought two of these, thinking that at the price I should keep my expectations low. When I hooked them up to my QSC, dialed in a little bit of low-end eq, and set the crossover at 75HZ, I was amazed; no, dumbfounded that such a low-priced sub could sound so good. I have the two of them hooked in parallel for a 4-ohm load, driven by a bridged-mono RMX1450, so each one is getting 700 watts, and they handle it quite gracefully. Of course, being that they are 15's, I would not hit them with much below 45Hz, but with the right EQ and crossover settings, they perform beautifully. I would highly recommend these subs to any DJ or band playing to 600 people or less.
