Samson SASRK12 SRK12 12 Space Rack Stand Review

Samson SASRK12 SRK12 12 Space Rack Stand
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I needed a rack with wheels to use at home for some recording work I do. Being frustrated at the prices of simple wooden rack boxes/cases I was delighted when I found this unit by Samson.
No, it doesn't have doors/lids that close the front and back for transport, but that's not really what I needed. Besides this thing is heavy enough (it's steel after all) that you wouldn't really want to transport it anyway.
It really is a nice large rack. 18" deep x 20" wide x 27.5" high, with 12 rack spaces. When you put the thing together (it comes with it's own mini screwdriver included, how cool is that?) you have the option of setting it up to use either US or European rack standards and includes rack screws for all the spaces in both standards (the 4 main supports in the case are a sort of "[" shape. On one side are the US threads, on the other side the European ones).
The entire thing is finished with this nice black powder coat that looks like it could take a good bit of abuse, and the top is a very thick and solid surface. I can put my drink or something on it without worrying about spilling something and it ruining the equipment underneath.
There was one problem with the rack though, and it's the ONLY reason it didn't get 5 stars, and that's because some of the screws are near impossible to get in unless you drill out some of the holes.
I think this is because during manufacturing the holes are drilled so the screws will fit perfectly, however the thickness of the powder coat paint results in the holes being just a hair too small for some of the screws.
This is a very easy thing to fix by using a drill with a bit that just barely doesn't fit in the hole. Just go over the hole once, removing the paint and making the hole a tad larger, and the screws will go in no problem. I found this out the hard way by accidentally stripping two screws. Most of the thing goes together VERY easily, and I only notices this problem on the holes located around the lid/top of the case. So if you are putting one together and things get a bit too hard to turn DON'T FORCE IT, you'll just strip the head of the screw.
This is a very minor issue though, and to spite it I would buy another one of these racks in a heart beat if I needed (I really do love it), but I also understand that not everyone may have the tools or ability to address this issue so I thought it was worth mentioning.
Perhaps mine just ran into an over zealous painter during production. It's not a big deal.

Odyssey CXP1108 Pro Combo Carpeted Rack With Recessed Hardware: 11u Top, 8u Bottom Review

This Odyssey rack feels solid and, well, heavy. There are panels on the top, front, and back. The top panel hinges open and can be removed altogether. After you unlatch them, the front and back panels are a little tough to pop open, because the carpeted panels fit snugly.
I picked this rack for these reasons. First, I needed a rack that would fit an Allen & Heath ZED14. With 11u on the top, this rack will definitely do the job. (Maybe a 10u would have worked, but I wanted to be sure.) Second, it seemed durable and the price was right. Third, it was in stock and eligible for prime shipping. Fourth, Odyssey has a Web site dedicated to spare parts called "odyssey-parts" which gives me confidence that I'll be able to find parts should I need them.
Customer support via email has been great. Originally, I thought there was a problem with the rack rails, so I sent an email. I couldn't get a 1U unit to mount with all four screws. Customer support was helpful and was willing to ship out replacement rails to me.
As it turns out, later that day, I discovered I was wrong. Since I am new to rack mounting, I thought each any every hole would be the same distance apart. As I found out today, the EIA spacing works like this 5/8" + 5/8" + 1/2". You can find pictures of what I'm talking about if you search for "eia rack spacing." The problem with mounting my 1U was that I was trying to mount it 1/2U in the wrong direction.

Stanton Uberstand Laptop Stand Review

Stanton Uberstand Laptop Stand
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just used the Stanton Uberstand for a club DJ gig. I had to travel via train to get to the gig and I was lugging around two laptops and an Xponent, so the Uberstand's light weight and flat profile (when folded) was a real plus. The body is also solidly constructed, and its silver finish is complementary to my Macbook Pro 15-inch unibody. In order to fit the legs of the stand under my Xponent, I have to place my Xponent on some drink coasters, but that's not a big issue (helps keep the Xponent off the table in case of drink spillage). When set up, it feels solid and unlikely to topple over when bumped. The rubber at the end of the legs also keeps the laptop from moving while balanced on the top. The stand also comes with a snug-fitting carry case.
My only gripe is that you need a (provided) plastic handcuff thing to hold the base in place when you are setting it up. I can see myself losing this plastic handcuff eventually, so I would prefer some mechanical locking mechanism instead. Other than this one gripe, this is an excellent product for mobile DJs.
