BBE Sonic Maximizer Plugin Software Review

BBE Sonic Maximizer Plugin Software

Several months ago I saw someone post at another websight about this software that is just 'adds distortion.' (?) I can understand why he said that if when he initially tried to use it and didn't have any idea how the settings work. It could if not used properly.
This software is very 'interesting' it what it may be able to do for you in different applications. With a little patients on your part, you may indeed get some very impressive results in finer distinction and clarity with some of your favorite music tracks. I've tried it on many things the last few days after I bought it, from bad recordings to even 'remasters.' (Some of the 'remasters' are just plain poor. Listen for yourself instead of being caught up by this vague 'buzz word.')
Being a musician and working in sound for many years, I don't believe there's any 'one click fix' to any sound problem you might encounter. But what I've found so far with the BBE Sonic Maximizer is that it can be a very useful tool, adjusted properly, and help a great deal in adding clarity, detail, presence and/or depth to music that seems 'flat' or 'lifeless.'
Does it add 'distortion' as I was led to believe at first? It could if not adjusted correctly. (An obvious thing to check is to make sure your 'output level' in the BBE software is not pushing your host application into clipping (distorting). You might not need this kind of application at all and be trying to use it to "fix" (or 'adjust') for an entirely different 'problem.' (It might just be a matter of personal taste and isn't 'a problem' to begin with.)
I wished I had initially taken my own advise and reminded myself to 'go listen for yourself.' I might not need this software all the time, but I'm certainly glad I have it now. Using it on some of my sound projects is going to be very helpful. It is giving me some audio clarity and detail I was not able to get at times. It is a MUST HAVE for me.

Mogami Gold TS-RCA 12 1/4 to RCA Patch Cable 12 feet Review

Mogami Gold TS-RCA 12 1/4 to RCA Patch Cable 12 feet

Received the Mogami wires which came in a nice package. The wires are nicely designed but the weight of the wire is not very heavy and the diameter was smaller than I expected. I bought these wires to be used in playing music for professional purposes. The strength of the make is okay but not the best. I do recommend the product for home use but not commercial applications.

Echo Indigo DJx Audio I/O ExpressCard for Notebook Computers Review

Echo Indigo DJx Audio I/O ExpressCard for Notebook Computers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've owned this card and the earlier PCMCIA version. Echo makes good drivers and both cards function very well for djs who need dual output soundcards, but don't want an external firewire or USB box to schlep. Unfortunately I can't recommend this card (the Expresscard version) for anyone with a 54mm expresscard slot (like my HP). The card is only 34mm in width, so they provide a separate plastic piece to attach to the card for insertion. It works, but it's so precarious in that slot that anyone touching the attached cables from several feet away can cause the card to disengage. Anyone who deejays with laptops knows you're often an afterthought at gigs, fighting for space, so moving around with this thing just doesn't cut it. Otherwise, sound quality is excellent, though not particularly loud.
Also, their tech support does not respond to emails, even when I spent a half-hour putting together all the doc they asked for. I've emailed twice, politely, to the address they provided, and it didn't bounce, but never got any response and it's been over 2 weeks.

VISIOSONIC PCDJ Karaoke ( Windows ) Review

VISIOSONIC PCDJ Karaoke ( Windows )
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was recently in the market for a DJ software package so I could transition into MP3 dj-ing. I thought PCDJ was the best software on the market, clearly I was wrong. When the software was functioning (rarely), the features that first attracted me to it worked fine. Then, things went downhill from there. First off, PCDJ has a sound dropping issue. Whenever one would maximize or minimize a window, the sound would stutter or skip, producing a horrendous noise. Visiosonic has addressed the issue, but has yet to produce a fix. It also turns out Visiosonic has a ridiculous licensing/product activation system that will lock you out of the application by changing even the slightest settings to your system's hardware (BIOS update or a video card driver update for example). I paid PCDJ and now I can't use it. Tech support was an absolute joke; it took them one week to respond to my inquiry and finally unlocked my software. After the same thing happened again about a month later, I decided to forget about PCDJ all together. Think twice before purchasing any Visiosonic product, it's just not worth the money. Sadly enough, the application lockout happened right before one of my DJ jobs, a very embarrassing situation indeed. Look at other software packages (heck, even iTunes is better than this) before stooping to this.

Behringer UCA202 Audio Interface Review

Behringer UCA202 Audio Interface
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This device is great for those who just want to get sound in and out of the computer conveniently without plugging in too many audio cables. It is nice to sit down at a desk, plug in the USB hub, and get sound in and out right away. I used mine to connect out to my ADS monitors and in from my run-of-the-mill Behringer 802 mixer.
Key word "used." After a few hours of listening to the device, both recording and playback, I realized that it actually sounded worse than the headphone output on my laptop. Now, realize that I am a stickler for audio quality - your needs may vary - but for those with good ears this may be useful information. The sound is dead and lifeless, without much clarity or image. It seems as though a veil lies between me and the music that I can't get rid of.
This, my good-eared friends, is the problem with a cheap DAC. That's the Digital-to-Analog converter, and it's what takes the bits from your computer and decides how to make sound waves out of them. Devices such as this one are cheap for a reason - the DAC chips and op-amps and components in the signal path are cheaply bought and cheaply constructed, and you'll get that signature veiled Behringer (oops, am I generalizing?) 'cheap' sound.
If you have good ears and know you will be able to hear a difference - do yourself a favor and invest in a good DAC and ADC instead of this. You will thank yourself many times later on for it. There are many options in the $100-$200 range that those with good ears will (unfortunately for our wallets) require.
So this review is mainly targeted as a warning to folks with discerning ears. However, if you're just looking for simple input and output and aren't running it to a good set of monitors or doing serious recording, then this will do just fine. If you know you won't be able to hear the difference, there's obviously no point in spending any more than this. Enjoy!
(As a side note - if you're wondering why I care so much, let me put it simply: I think I end up listening to and enjoying more music when it sounds remarkably real. It's way more enjoyable. That's all. If you can avoid it, I suggest staying blissfully unaware of this fact; it's way cheaper.)
