DN-SC2000 Compact 2-Deck USB MIDI Controller Review

DN-SC2000 Compact 2-Deck USB MIDI Controller
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As soon as I pulled this out of the box I could tell the build quality was excellent. It's really sturdy, not something that's going to warp or move around on you. The size is about that of a small textbook, minus the pots and platter. It feels real solid and has a good weight, but overall it's still pretty light. The nice rubber feet underneath means it won't move around just because you're getting energetic with it.
I plugged it in, and the lights came on, very nice. Definitely good for a dark club, everything is real visible and even the lights around the pots look great. Everything is color coded for easily distinguishing which deck/fx unit is active. The light in front of the platter lights up red/blue to show you if a track is loaded.
The rubber buttons are really clicky and honestly I think I like these more than normal plastic buttons. The problem with most rubber buttons is they're springy and it's easy to miss-hit them, but I haven't found that problem with these. Plus being rubber, they're a little more comfortable. The pots are clicky (meaning they aren't just free spinning) and sturdy, and you can press them in as buttons to enable/disable things.
Out of the box, it worked in VDJ 7. I didn't have to set anything up, it just worked. The FX units are mapped to deck 1/2 effects by default (since VDJ doesn't have a standalone FX unit, it's specific to each deck), and everything else performs just how you'd expect it to. The only thing that I noticed doesn't seem to work is the light under the platter doesn't light up in VDJ. I suspect I could get this to work by tweaking the mapping (all the notes for the LEDs are included in the instruction sheet, for mapping with arbitrary software). *Edit* it turns out I just wasn't reading. The SC2000 actually has toggles for bend/vinyl mode built right in, using the shift button, which in VDJ is displayed with this LED, so when I switch it into vinyl mode it lights up :)
For traktor (TP2) I had to download the tsi from denon's website (look under manuals...no idea why they didn't label it "downloads" or something). Once I imported it though, it worked great. The FX units behave like you'd expect (defaulting to the two standalone FX units that can be applied to decks individually using the fx 1/2 buttons). The platter light works in traktor.
The platter is great, it doesn't have any "travel" (movement up and down) but still very touch sensitive. I'm having trouble getting traktor to behave exactly how I want in conjunction with my hercules RMX jog wheels (scratch mode is inconsistent with both plugged in) but I mapped my hercules by hand so it could be something I did. The scratching works perfectly when the hercules isn't active.
The track search / browser controls are awesome as well. Shift + spin the dial to select the artist in your left pane, then release shift and spin it to select the track, and finally press it down to load the deck (make sure the deck you want to load to is the active selected deck on your SC2000 (in a single instance setup)).
Overall very great buy, I bought one just to add to my simple 2-deck jog controller, but I'm already pretty sure I'll be getting a second one. With 2, you can control 4 decks easy (2 each deck). The download comes with 2 tsi files (one for left/right, one for top/bottom) so you can choose a single or double configuration for your SC2000(s).
Only downside (if you can even call it that) is that obviously being digital/MIDI you can't use this with a normal mixer without extra work. That isn't my setup, though, since I use a software mixer, and doesn't impact me negatively.

Denon DND6000 Dual DJ CD Player Review

Denon DND6000 Dual DJ CD Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've owned my Denon DN-D6000 dual deck CD/MP3 player for about 6 months now, and I can do nothing but rave about it.
The build is top-quality and of only the sturdiest materials. The technology in these decks will not be surpassed for years to come. They feature digital coaxial connections to your mixer for richer, more robust sound as well as a special cable (not the typical round MIDI-like cable) that very securely connects the control unit to the player with a push-clip. The controls (push buttons) are firm yet precisely responsive and allow you to make quick adjustments to insure seamless mixing. The large jog wheel is a bit on the sensitive side... but I've honestly never heard anyone ever complain that their equipment was too darn good at doing EXACTLY what it was physically made to do (i.e., you can give the wheel too big of a nudge when making an adjustment and create yourself an instant train wreck.) These decks are slot loading -- no trays to worry about getting stuck, which makes for a much more dependable unit over time. From what I have read, these (Denon) decks are the only ones in the world that allow you to cue a song from the same CD (next track queuing... and the cross fade is user-adjustable). This deck also reads MP3 disks... a feature usually only available on competitor's highest trim players (Such as the Pioneer CDJ-1000 MKIII which costs HUNDREDS more than this deck and is only a single table top). Sampling and 4 effects are onboard and the firmware/software for the unit can be flashed/updated via CD-ROM. When playing an audio CD, you have 20 seconds of shock protection in case the CD player is jarred or moved (while dancing around in the DJ booth, for example). Shock protection varies with MP3 playback and is dependent upon whether the MP3 track is CBR or VBR. I'm thankfully unable to comment about service levels from the Denon Corporation and it's authorized agents because I haven't had the slightest problem.
I purchased mine for $679 plus $35 shipping -- so it's no wonder why I feel they are such an awesome value! (Actually, I would have probably gladly paid more!)
If you're considering buying a dual deck CD player look no further! The Denon name is synonymous with tag lines such as "Top Quality" and "Industry Standard" -- The DN-D6000 lives up to those and then some!

DNX900 4 Channel Professional Analog Digital DJ Mixer Review

DNX900 4 Channel Professional Analog Digital DJ Mixer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I won't get into technicalities. I will say this, I got tired of the computer crashes(rare but there). I purchased the Denon DN-x900 without any reviews being out there...being a Denon, I took a chance on the product and don't regret it. It's cheaper then the pioneer version and fits perfectly in my flight case(19" mixer cavity). Since I mix mp3 and video files, I use a lot of resources on my laptop for my portable gigs. This mixer allows me to plug my cd decks on separate channels as well as use time codes on my pc(cd decks have dual outputs) without a fuss. I control the treble, mids, and bass and kill any one of them. I can plug 2 microphones and multiple speakers/monitors(in case your own speakers don't allow daisy chaining[my current setup]). I could go on and on, the point, quality mixer with quality sound output for the mobile DJ(or small club/bar atmosphere) at a fraction of the pioneer counterpart. Best part, if you are aggressive with your faders, you can replace them.

Minor issues with the external power supply, but hey if it was to be an internal power supply it wouldn't be as small as it is. It works great for me together with my denon 2500.

Although the controls, buttons and display make for a "busy" looking layout, it performs to perfection! Easily configurable to PCDJ-Red Mobile (my software of choice at the present) and VERY responsive! For me, this was an upgrade from the PCDJ DAC-3 and I'm glad I made the switch as I have restored confidence in my mixing/transitions: when I press PLAY, it plays!! Worth every penny.

Denon Dnx 100 Review

i have owned this unit for about 2 years now, and its a great piece of equipment, it does everything you need as a DJ, you can also adjust curve and contour which is not common for small mixers, the size its a big plus, as a DJ i'm constantly moving from bars to clubs to parties, and carrying heavy equipment sucks, this little baby can fit into any case or bag, fader and knobs are smooth and precise, if you are looking for a 2 channel mixer and dont want to spend big $ this would be my top choice. Great work Denon!!!

DNX120 Compact DJ Mixer Review

DNX120 Compact DJ Mixer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
General Overview:
This is actually the smallest standard 2 channeled 10" mixer out there so far. The make feels solid and is not cheap like any other plastic mixer out there. The parts are pretty solid too. It doesn't pack much extra features but for a beginner(like me) this mixer is pretty much the best one could start out with for a price below 200. (Remember, good mixers are worth at least 300~500ish or more)
Surface parts:
It feels extremely well built, metal encasing, and even though the knobs are plastic it's still pretty strong. The faders are wonderful, although I didnt try to remove them to test the switchability, it is originally glued down and VERY strong against accident removal from crabs or fast fader techniques. The decals/markings on the surface are also well painted (not easy to wear/chip) The kill switch (or phone/line channel switches) are a bit disappointing since it is the only part that I don't feel safe to cheat fader techniques. In other words they aren't as strong as the mic switch could be. The mic switch is a great metal stick switch VERY SOLID. The rear RCAs/quarter jack inputs are solidly built as well.
Functionalities/Features:
This is a no effect 2 channeled mixer. The sound is as crisp as the input source/output speakers could be. the cross fader cruve is adjustable (slow to fast, slow being a mixing crossfading effect, whereas the fast function as the curve scratch DJs would want)The center blue denon icon lights up but it only signals powere is on and it is not a bpm count. Upfaders are not adjustable, but the change in the volume with the upfaders are significantly noticable. (Top: being in full gain volume, Bottom: having the volume switched off completely) The volume control have 3 EQs for each channel (the mic has two: High and Low) It also has a master volume control. This mixer is extremely easy for portability if (like me) you do not own one of those expensive coffins/flight cases.
Special Feature:
The only "effect" or special feature on this mixer would be the fader start option on this mixer. Since it is a denon mixer, when you purchase products such as a DNS1200 or a DNS3700. You could connect a mono 3.5mm jack from the cd players to the mixer to operate this fader start program. Basically you push the upfaders up to act as a play function for the players. There also the crossfader start where it is the same function except the other player stops when you switch.
Comparison:
Compared with the Behringer VMX1000 (that i shortly returned upon testing) I would still prefer this since this mixer delivers everything that a regular two channel mixer could provide. It is the perfect 2 channel mixer. (Stanton,Numark,American Audio, Pyle Pro, all those company's 2 channel mixer serve as a cheaper generic substitute. But remember you get what you paid for. And for 175(shipping not included) I am satisfied with this product.
Bottom Line:
If you got the money and you're stressing over which mixer to get, save up and get this mixer. It is NOT the best mixer, but it is certainly THE BEST 2 CHANNEL MIXER out there.

Denon DN S1000 Scratch DJ Table Top DJ CD and MP3 Player Review

Denon DN S1000 Scratch DJ Table Top DJ CD and MP3 Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been spinning "CD" for nearly 10 years now, and I must say that this unit stands out over the competition. For years, I've been sold on Pioneer, emerging with the original 500-G & 500-II, then the 700s, 100s, the 1000s, and even some stint on the 3000 dual unit. This one stands out over all of them, and here's why:
MP3 Playback is amazing on here, and you can scratch it too. You can have files 8 folders deep, with 255 tracks each. Combine that with the ability to "quick-mix" into another track on the disc, and you can be unstoppable, even with one CD. Plus you get full ID support, including v2.4.
The hot starts can be located anywhere on the disc, in addition to your regular cue. So you can preset a hard transition into two other tracks on the disc, and still be in a third track from the start.
It will store presets for up to 1000 tracks, including the on/off status of nearly every button on the machine, plus your two hot starts of the track. The only thing it doesn't store is the actually pitch up/down (for obvious reasons).
Digital outputs work with ALL features on, at a steady 44.1k.
This unit only gets four stars for a few reasons. The main reason, scratching accuracy can be tricky at first, but you improve over time. The platter does not move, and the only real cue tip you have is watching the seconds and frames.
Another downer is that the BPM counter seems to be off, but maybe I'm missing a feature - there are three settings to the counter (Auto/Tap/Manual Entry). However, once you find the BPM, it does change with the pitch slider, a plus but common these days.
Lastly, I haven't quite figured out how to change the slipmat/platter that ships with the unit. It looks like a very small a-wrench should work, but the manual and Denon website doesn't tell you - just the video on their site says it can be done. The reason to change it? All the photos show it as black, when it's really a shiny silver CD, which can REALLY glare when dance lighting is around you, or even overhead lighting.
Was it worth the investment? So far, yeah - I recommend these to anyone looking for a small package (same height/width of a Pioneer 100s, but half as long) with a ton of "useful" features.

DENON DN-X900 Review

DENON DN-X900
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Denon brand has long been a club standard and a familiar fixture in DJ booths far and wide, especially when it comes to DJ CD players. But what better way to leverage and compliment the fantastic features of the Denon CD player line than to use a Denon mixer?
The X900 is currently Denon's flagship 19" (rack-mountable, 4U) DJ mixer. It doesn't attain "flagship" status just because of the cool lights and colossal number of buttons and levers... instead, it relies on a formidable feature set, unmatched sound quality/clarity, standard-setting build quality, and Denon durability!
The X900 is a digital matrix mixer, Breaking that down to reveal the true nature of the X900, "DIGITAL" means that the mixer has both digital inputs (4, via digital coaxial) and digital outputs (2, via digital coaxial & Toslink [optical]) and "MATRIX" means that the devices you connect to the mixer don't necessarily have to be plugged into a certain channel. Rather, once the device is connected, you use an input selector knob to assign the input for that particular channel. You can even have a single device simultaneously selected as the input for multiple channels.
After many hours of research and competitive shopping, the features that sold me most on this mixer and were most important in my decision to buy it were these: a) Each channel has its own volume level meter, so you can accurately adjust the gains for better transitions. b) Each channel also has its own 3-band EQ adjust/kill. If you decide you'd rather adjust the EQ levels of the master out rather than separate channels, you can deselect independent EQ. c) Amazing sound quality and clarity is yet another factor that impacted my decision to purchase this mixer. That quality and clarity is direct result of the X900's digital capabilities). d) And finally, the ability to record from a digital source was a big plus. I regularly use my digital optical output to record my sets into a laptop via the sound card. Forget about having to go back and track your sets out... because there's a track mark button that allows you to record directly to a CD burner and create track markers (and separate tracks) on the fly while you're spinning.
The X900's matrix capabilities allow you to select any of the channels to the booth monitor so you can listen just as you would listen in your headphones. For shows that might include an emcee or hostess, this unit features a mic talk-over function that decreases the volume of the music when us of the mic begins. Sensitivity of the talk-over is adjustable. Overall, the controls of the X900 are placed intuitively, the features are easy to use, and because of those two factors, the X900 is an easy piece of equipment to get the hang of quickly.
Some of my colleagues are devout supporters of knobbed mixers... while others (such as I) prefer sliders. The X900, however, allows you the best of both worlds because you can swap out the sliders for knobs! The sliders, while we're on the subject, are exceptionally smooth and cause equal gain change along the length of the throw (as opposed to a wickedly sensitive first or final third of the throw).
There are other brands of mixers out there that have similar feature sets, and some may come close in matching the X900's sound clarity... but there isn't another mixer that I've used, read about, or heard about that does everything as well as the Denon x900 while maintaining such a great value point. These competitors generally cost hundreds of dollars more and don't have a feature set equivalent to even the previous generation Denon flagship mixer (the X500). The X900 is definitely an overlooked shining star when it comes to selecting and purchasing a durable, cost-effective, and feature-reach DJ tool to showcase your talents.
I've owned my X900 since Dec 2005 and I use it every day to practice/rehearse and occasionally for mobile gigs. I haven't had a single issue or complaint with it. My X900 is the perfect compliment for my Denon DN-D6000, and I'm looking to add a set of Denon Tabletops to my war chest very soon!
