To tell you the truth, I expected a lot more from this unit.
It plays CBR and VBR(not recommended by manufacturer) MP3s from external USB mass Storage Devices, including Ipods (not iphones or ipod touch), USB thumb drives and External USB Hard Drives. This is cool. It lacks a CD player, which I don't mind, but would have been useful.
I've had it for almost one month now, and I have used it for not more than 24 hours. But, from the first 2 hours it started to show problems.
First, the players stopped responding randomly. That is, I have not noticed any pattern in them failing, they just do at random times. This can only be fixed by rebooting the unit. (can you imagine if this happens in the middle of a gig)
Last night, the left cue button stopped working. I noticed some time later that it worked if you pressed really hard, but, hey, who wants to use something like that. Its not supposed to be like that, so I assumed it was a bad component. Then later I found out that these units are all made in China. Well, designed in USA, but made in China, to be exact. I should have known better.
Cortex Tech support has not replied to any of my emails, where I explain my problems. They have not released any firmware updates addressing the multiple bugs reported in their forums. Not even a notification saying if they will ever do it.
I also have to say that when the unit works properly, it is fun and sounds OK. If it worked properly all the time, I would be loving it. Im trying to send it back and look for something else. I suggest you do the same.
