They survive drops onto hard surfaces and still sound great. Buy this. This is the go-to mic for mic'ing amplifiers, snare drums, wind instruments, vocals, or anything you need to mic. Its great to have fancier mics for specific purposes; this mic is for everything else.

So I run a small recording studio in my home and work with the audio systems at our church and other events. All the places I've ever worked at trust SHURE microphones. I bought the PG58, and its apparent why that is. Giving little or no feedback at high volumes, the PG58 really owns up to its SHURE name. It has a shockmount inside so the handling noise is barely there. The rugged handle and materials used to build it can take a serious beating. I myself treat my equipment very well, but I know others who use SHURE microphones and DON'T take the best care....and they're nearly indestructible! Bottom Line, great mic for a great price, especially if you buy it on Amazon! So far, its pleased me endlessly, and I'm sure it will continue to do so!

It is rare when something lives up to the hype surrounding it. This mic does indeed live up to the hype.
After using condenser mics to record spoken word, I was skeptical that a dynamic mic could deliver good quality voice unless you paid an outrageous amount of money. This one does deliver. What is even more surprising, for the first test, I ran the mic direct into a mini digital recorder, Tascam DR07, and got outstanding results. No EQ, no preamp, just straight in. What's more, this was tested outside the studio, in an open room, and I did not pick up any ambient noise.
The raw feed from this mic delivers a rich fat sound favoring deeper voices. Without any preamp, I had to be closer than I am used to with the condenser mics I've been using, but the freedom to operate without any external phantom power makes up for that. The vocals came through very clear and without obvious pops from plosives.
BLUE mics have a rock solid reputation and I think this mic will only server to enhance it. Speaking of rock solid, wait until you feel the heft of this in your hand! Real solid! Previously, I used either AKG C900 or AKG C1000 for non-studio recording. No more. The enCore 200 is now my preferred microphone for these tasks. In addition to sounding better, there's less equipment to carry to power the mic.

Blue Microphones enCORE 100 Studio-Grade Dynamic Performance Microphone Review

I went to a brick and mortar store intent on buying the industry standard Shure SM58 or better. My main intention was to use the mic for live vocal performance with only some limited computer recording using Audacity or Windows Movie Maker.
To quote one large retailer; "The Shure SM58 Mic is world-renowned for its distinctive upper-midrange presence peak that ensures an intelligible, lively sound. Perfectly fits a performer's hand, balanced for total comfort during long gigs. Frequency response is a smooth, vocal-tailored 50Hz-15kHz, and the price is a bargain considering its life expectancy." And of course, "The Shure SM58 mic is legendary for its uncanny ability to withstand abuse that would destroy any other microphone." Those words about the Shure are important because they seem like a paradigm of the comments of most of the people that have reviewed the Shure SM58.
When I picked up the Shure SM58 it felt good in my hand - nicely weighted and very solidly built. I also liked the sound of it; however being my first serious microphone that was bound to be the case.
In the interest of due diligence I decided to try out a couple of other microphones in the same price range. This Blue Microphones enCORE 100 pleasantly surprised me. It was more sensitive than the Shure and boasted a brighter and crisper sound. For the kind of vocal work that I wanted to do (Jazz and Pop Standards) it seemed perfect.
The nail in the coffin was the fact that it is a much more beautiful microphone to look at and it feels more substantial in the hand (it is heavier). The lower price (as of this writing) and the beautiful felt-lined canvas carrying pouch weren't even necessary - I was already convinced after singing a few measures. I am very happy that I purchased the Blue Microphones enCORE 100.

Building a home studio, owned a few mics before this, some were more expensive some cheaper. This microphone blows them all away, there's a reason Shure has such a good reputation in this industry. This mic is built rock solid, the switch feels really solid and I don't have to worry about it breaking. First time I used this I was absolutely amazed at how crisp and clear the recording was. I'm buying two more.
