(More customer reviews)Because it's not very pretty and doesn't contain a lot of bells and whistles, I doubt that the Numark PT-01USB will score well with music purists. But if you're looking for an inexpensive way to get your record collection digitized, this is the USB turntable you're looking for.
It's not automatic, if that's important to you -- you have to do your own cueing and moving the arm after a side is played. The built-in speaker makes it easy to have it next to your computer and monitor the recording. If you're not in a position to listen, just plug in some headphones -- there are jacks for plugs both big and small.
The PT-01USB can handle all three record speeds, 33, 45 (look sharp, or you'll miss the adapter) and 78. While I was quite pleased with the overall sound quality, my first recording attempt was too low in volume. I found the solution in the user manual -- adjusting the turntable's gain control.
Though the PT-01USB works with both Mac and Windows, I suggest you ditch the software supplied in favor of a download of the free audio editing software Audacity -- the Mac version is outdated anyway. But that's the nastiest thing I can say about this product.
During its "down time," the PT-01USB can be hooked up to "normal" speakers via its RCA plugs, and it's portable to boot! The dust cover doubles as a lid and there's a built-in handle -- add six D batteries, and you're mobile!
As an inexpensive replacement turntable that can digitize my vinyl, I say that the Numark PT-01USB fills the bill and already paid for itself.
