While the SRM-450V2s are not inexpensive, they do deliver quality sound. I used 2 of these for an outdoor gig and the music output was evenly dispersed with clear highs and mids and with punchy bass. My only regret was that some of the MP3s I played were encoded with bitrates of only 128kbps, such that the compression levels' musical deficiencies were exposed by the clarity of these SRM450V2.
My advice would be to use a good mixer with balanced XLR cables and a nice CD deck (to play CDs of course!)as well. You would also be well-served by using a subwoofer to augment the low frequencies, especially if you crave body-stopping and head-pounding bass.
These second-gen SRM450s are also 11 pounds lighter than the first-gens.
Pros:
1. powerful and clear sound output, with even and wide dispersion. This translates into wide coverage and most people being surprised to find just a couple of speakers putting out such huge sound.
2. relatively lightweight, considering its dimensions
3. sturdy construction
Cons:
1. I can't find one yet.
The other brands I've checked out (powered speaker cabinets only): JBL EONs, Peaveys, Behringer Eurolive Series either are not much of a value relative to the Mackies ( JBL EONS sound just as good as Mackies but are more expensive) while for the Peaveys and Behringers - somehow, the sound they put out was flat and hollow. The Mackies have a "full" sound. Try listening to these at your local music supply store.
