This "Music Creation Game" is totally awesome. If you have ever wanted to scratch like a pro-dj, make phat raps, or even record your OWN raps this is the game. With over 1,000 loops, bass lines, raps, sound effects, voice recordings, your own scratches and more. There is two side screens other than the 6-line music creator that you drag&drop effects for the song the scratch and the recording studio. The scratch area is where you can scratch like a pro by draging your mouse to turn the record, drag your own sound effects into there and scratch the ... out of them. You can make a whole scratch line for your song or make a perfect scratch for your other songs. This is great if you can't afford all the expensive equiptment to scratch really! The recording studio is where you "record lyrics" or "effects" for your song. In all this is a phat 5 star game for anyone who has the talent of music creation.

KRK KNS6400 Studio Headphones Review

The KRK name speaks for itself. And these headphones live up to the name. They have excellent reproduction across all frequencies, from what I can tell, especially in the bass range. In my home studio I created a pop-style mix with a vocal track over multiple orchestral instruments, and these headphone monitors never let me down. The final mix turned out wonderfully.
The KRKs are cushioned and comfortable to wear for long periods of time. They have good sound insulation to cut out background noise, but are breathable enough so that you don't sweat.

Mackie PROFX12 12- Channel Compact Effects Mixer with USB Review

Mackie PROFX12 12- Channel Compact Effects Mixer with USB
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
While researching this unit I was surprised at the limited number of online reviews available. Perhaps that's because until recently I didn't even know this mixer existed - Mackie does not appear to be promoting this product line as heavily as its Onyx series of mixers and its well-known VLZ-Pro line. That's a shame, because this really is a wonderful mixer that adds new features not found on their older VLZ series while maintaining Mackie's high standards of product quality and durability. I have owned a Mackie 1402-VLZ mixer for many years, and it's been a versatile, reliable mixing tool throughout that time. But I've pined at times (mostly when mixing live performances) for the convenience of a mixer with on-board digital effects. The ProFX12 is perhaps the ideal small ensemble live performance mixer. The similarities to Mackie's VLZ series mixers are numerous - the input/output section and channel strips are very similar, providing immediate familiarity for anyone who's used a Mackie before. A key difference worth highlighting: the level set/solo function of the VLZ series has been replaced by individual level set LEDs on each channel input. I prefer setting pre-fader gain with the benefit of a multi-segment LED indicator, but the single, channel-specific LED indicators are nonetheless perfectly serviceable. The mic pre's on the ProFX mixers are not Mackie's highly vaunted XDR design found on their VLZ-Pro mixers, but they are clean, quiet, high quality mic pre's that will satisfy just about any live sound reinforcement or recording application (unless perhaps you're an engineer in a professional studio mixing the next New York Philharmonic performance for a 64bit, 192kHz audiophile recording). One feature missing from the ProFX mixers is individual channel outs - if you are doing multitrack recording and need this flexibility, you'll need to look elsewhere. Also gone is the VLZ-series' ALT 3-4 routing for the mute switches. I never once used this feature in all the years I have owned my 1402, so I doubt it's a deal-breaker for anyone pondering this purchase. The real prizes on this mixer are those new features missing from the VLZ designs: on-board effects, a graphic EQ, and (drum roll) USB connectivity. Mackie really did their homework on their RM 32-bit effects chip. Ten of the sixteen effects are reverbs, and they are uniformly warm, articulate, rich-sounding 'verbs that add wonderful ambience to your mix. The only effect 'editing' here is more or less, so you pick the room size and turn it up or down. One nice related feature is a footswitch for turning the effects on or off during live performance. (And if you need the added flexibility offered by an external effects unit, the effects send mix is mirrored on a mono FX send that can be coupled with a pair of stereo returns.) The graphic EQ is another nice addition that offers more sound sculpting tools than Mackie's very musical 3-band channel strip EQ knobs. And finally, the USB connectivity makes this a fully modern mixer that can plug as easily into your computer as it can into a pair of powered PA monitors. Traction3 software can be downloaded for free if you don't already own recording software.
This unit is made in China if that matters to you. My old Mackie was made in Woodenville, and Mackie took pride in that fact. I do wish this unit was US-made, but I'm afraid it's virtually impossible to find a mixer in this price range with these specs and features that is built domestically.
I'll never get rid of my 1402-VLZ, but it's probably going to collect a lot more dust in the coming years now that I own the ProFX12.

The new Music Maker 16 comes with really cool new sounds and effects. For me the guitar amplifier Vandal se is the absolute highlight on this software! Furthermore I like the new option to play the instruments via the pc keyboard, with this I can play around and try some new melodies, if there is no midi keyboard close at hand.

Mackie 1202-VLZ3 12-Ch. Compact Recording/SR Mixer Review

Mackie 1202-VLZ3 12-Ch. Compact Recording/SR Mixer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Superb engineering at a very reasonable price is what I thought after using and testing the Mackie 1202. I work in a physics lab to which I took this mixer to see if it will perform to the level Mackie claims. To my surprise, mine exceeds Mackie's specifications: for example, they claim a very low 0.0007% distortion and linear response to 60000 cycles, mine far exceeds those specifications (measured on lab quality equipment). I also have a small home recording studio and work, part time, as a DJ and play in a small band. I needed a mixer with very low distortion, without costing a fortune, for my home studio and capable of handling mobile DJ work (MP3 from a computer) and work with a band as well so that is why I selected this unit. It is not specifically aimed at the DJ market-no cross fader-but works quite well with only a little bit of practice. Someone did some very careful thinking when designing this superb little mixer.

This mixer is great!, I used one at a little leage game, sounds great, works great, just asome. It has special pre-amps for amplifing whispers and screems. It isn't a bus mixer, but than again, it is!!, if you mute it, it is muted, but, it sends it to alt 3-4, wich you can send to a monitor, or something als, or you could select it to go to the sub room mix channel. This mixer has 2 alts. wich is very handy for many reasons. It TONS of outputs, an xlr main out, and a 1/4 inch main out, along with alts. You can run an effects mixer through it in any of the channels.
I love it!!
I recomend it to anyone!!

Mackie 1642-VLZ3 16-Ch. Compact Recording/SR Mixer Review

Mackie 1642-VLZ3 16-Ch. Compact Recording/SR Mixer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm not a professional engineer but I have a passion for recording music. I've been recording demos for my own bands and friends' bands on a shoestring budget for over 15 years, on and off. I've been using the smaller Mackie VLZ Pro 1202 since about 2003 mainly for recording to and monitoring Cubase for PC but it has been useful for other applications as well. (It's a dinky but rugged little mixer that squeezes into a backpack, takes some knocking about and still sounds absolutely amazing.)
Lately however I have been doing more live recording, location recording and I am upgrading my home recording setup from spare bedroom to big serious garage conversion and really needed more channels. I needed a mixer that was going to sound really neutral and noise-free with at least 10 respectable mic pre-amps, aux outs for foldback, group channels for drum pre-mixes and 8 direct outputs for recording to my 8-buss Delta soundcard or my Alesis ADAT 8-track recorder (it may be obsolete but it's still brilliant) and which could take any source that I plugged into it. I did my homework (I always spend weeks reading reviews and product specs before I lay out this sort of cash on anything) and found that the 1642 VLZ3 fitted the bill perfectly. Mackie again. (And I managed to find a ex-display bargain!)
When it arrived a few weeks ago I didn't have time to read the manual before my first live location recording job came up. It was no trouble at all to use, very intuitive and I was able to provide foldback and playback to the musicians as well as using the direct outputs to record the 8 individual mic inputs to tape. One thing that I was impressed by was the red overload light on each strip that lets you know if you're driving things too hard. When that red light comes on you better not ignore it!
Again, it is very rugged and despite being heavy it is easy to carry - the light aluminium rim at the front of the desk is actually a hollow metal handle.
I could bang on and on about the sound quality. The low noise floor and the expansive headroom. I cannot fault this mixer at all. My old Mackie VLZ Pro has already lasted over 6 years (including some international flights, a festival, some gigs) and still sounds perfect. Now Mackie say that the VLZ3 series is a major improvement on the VLZ Pro series for all sorts of reasons. I can't recommend this highly enough. This is a serious professional quality mixer for a few hundred bucks. Obviously different people are going to have different criteria and different budgets when it comes to choosing mixers, but I suspect you'd have lay out a hell of a lot more money to get even a small improvement on this sort of quality. It's absolutely perfect for me anyway, I'm a happy bunny.

Digital Blue Mixman DM2 Music Mixer Review

Digital Blue Mixman DM2 Music Mixer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought my DM2 for the soul purpose of scratching. I thought it would be great to scratch any sound. You wouldn't have to go buy custom records because you could make your own samples and scratch those. I learned you can't do this with the packaged software because it uses its own file format and converting to TRK is annoying and sample length is limited. I found something alot better, its called Traktor and you CAN set up the DM2 to work with it.
Look online and find an application called DM2Midi and download the profiles so you can make the DM2 function as a Midi control device. Traktor can play and manipulate full length wav and mp3 files without any need to convert. This is a better setup than the MixMan software but its still not going to function like a real turntable. If you want that go for Final Scratch or Ms. Pinky. Its steep but it will be the most authentic experience.
DM2 with Traktor is a useful combo if you can get it set up (there are tutorials on sites and in forums) but there are limitations because of how the DM2 is made.
The DM2's "scratch rings" don't work the same way as actual vinyl and they probably never will. Real vinyl is always in motion and it's also pressure sensitive (you can slow it just by gliding your finger over it or you can stop it completely) the DM2 lacks that kind of control and with current Traktor profiles you have to hold down a button to scratch. You also can't utilize the crossfader when you're using one hand to hold a "scratch button" and the other to move the "scratch wheel."
I've tried using profiles for Traktor that don't need a button so you scratch with the wheel itself but this is still difficult. The rubber scratch wheel's can't sense pressure so you can't just put your finger on the wheel and stop/slow the "record." The DM2 doesn't know your finger is there until you edge the wheel back or forth and once you stop moving it, it goes back to playing even if your finger is still there.
Perhaps if the surface of the wheels had some kind of heat/pressure sensitve strip like the volume adjuster on an Ipod it would work a little better. The people who make DM2 need to consider its possible application with OTHER software, not just its own.

Pyle-Pro PMX1608 - 16 Channel 1200 Watts Powered Mixer Review

Pyle-Pro PMX1608 - 16 Channel 1200 Watts Powered Mixer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
i purchased this mixer about a month ago and i have to say that for a 16 channel mixer i am very disappointed with some of the features. first of all this has no monitor mixes so you will need powered speakers as your monitor which can only be connected to a main mix so you will need to control your levels on that powered speaker. furthermore unless you are a bass player or a keyboard player with you own amp, you will have to deal with every thing else coming through the same speakers. the speaker left out make a funny static noise when a speaker is plugged in the 1/4 inch inputs seem a Lil slack and not very durable. it does have some good features like the rec in and DJ function and also 2 separate lines for audio. overall i will not recommend this mixer to anyone unless you just need a mixer for a small studio where you will only need a small mix

Mackie Thump TH-15A 2-Way Powered Loudspeaker (Single Speaker) Review

Mackie Thump TH-15A 2-Way Powered Loudspeaker (Single Speaker)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These speakers are clean, clear powerful. Very tight and clean bass (no low end "mud". The speakers have a very useable eq section. They have low impedence in and outs that make joining two or more of these (or other active speakers) as easy as plugging in another low impedence mic cable and going to another speaker. This keeps the signal clean and you don't need to utilize additional outputs on your mixer.
The sound is great. I have owned a pair of Behringer (B212) active speakers and a JBL 15 inch speaker in a cabinet driven by a QSC amp for a few years and have generally been pleased with the sound but I was looking for more natural, punchier low end (and I hate lugging the very heavy QSC amp). These Mackie speakers have the sound I was looking for and are actually lighter than my smaller Behringer speakers. I am now useing the Behringers on stands with the Mackies on the floor (I leave the QSC and JBL cab home). It is a very big sound.
Note: After I bought one of these to try, I had trouble getting a second one. Everbody I contacted from Musicinsfriend, Sweetwater and Guitar Center, were all out out of stock and waiting for backorders. Don't be surprised if you hear this when buying these. They are currently a very in demand item. The price on these does not vary much and $350.00 is the going price across the board.

Korg MONOTRON 16-Key Synthesizer Review

Korg MONOTRON 16-Key Synthesizer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great little item.
First of all, it's just a lot of fun to use. It very well might be the funnest and most carefree synth of I've ever used. Second, for the size and features, it's just a great value--the filter is awesome, and the type of sound you can get out of this little thing is very surprising.
Now, the onboard speaker output can be a bit noisy; however, it isn't bad, and it's very easy to get around that and keep a good quality sound by using aux. input and output with an audio interface (I'm using the Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP), just make sure you get the proper cables and adapters and use it as a line input. The aux. input is a great feature, letting you route audio into the unit to make use of the filter--I imagine this is what many people will use this for. Also, the unit is great for circuit bending (see youtube...) and is quite an adaptable machine (and at this price, you can afford to make a mistake during a hack, although with how quickly they sell, it may be a bit before you can get a replacement...).
Now, since it is a ribbon controller, it's best suited for glissandos and fx, not really for melody--however, it can be great for a bass part. Add external fx processing (delay lines, reverb, and granular synthesis are especially fun) and you start to see what a little beast this thing is.
Get one. And then a second.
