Pioneer DJM-5000 Professional Standard Mobile DJ Mixer Review

Pioneer DJM-5000 Professional Standard Mobile DJ Mixer

As a mobile DJ I needed something with good functionality and portability and I found that with the DJM-5000. Rather than talking about general features I will highlight some of the things that make this mixer unique and why I love it. First, if you are using a laptop to DJ or even as a backup like I do, you can connect directly with the mixer via USB. The mixer acts as an external speaker and the volume is controlled directly through the sliders. I use my computer on channel 4 and have had great results. There are also multiple controls per channel- not only do you have the slider bar but also a dial to control the sound so you can adjust per song without having to adjust the master volume. Another great thing about this mixer is the mic talkover- with mic's 1 and 2 you have the option of using talkover so you never have to stop your music. You can also control the percentage that the volume is cut by a dial. I keep my wireless mics on all night and use the power button on the mixer to cut the sound. This is really great at weddings when the bridal party may not know how to turn on your microphone. Unfortunately it seems that mic 1 is intended for a wired mic because the input is on the top of the mixer rather than the back but that is my only complaint!

Pioneer DJM-400 Pro Dj Mixer Review

Pioneer DJM-400 Pro Dj Mixer

For any dj that is trying to figure out what to get, look no further.
The DJM-400 is hands down one of the best mixers an amateur can get a hold of. It has most of the features of the higher end DJMs, but with a lot less confusion.
It's very simple to start with the 400. 2 channels, cross fader, eq...
It even comes with several effects, all of which are processed at a high quality and sound amazing, even when you crank the effect level up all the way.
It's built like a tank, but it sure is a lovely sight to look at.
For the dj on the rise, i recomend you get one of these, and a pair of CDJ-400 and you will be all set to rock out a killer set.

The entry-level Pioneer DJM-400 mixer with an all-digital mixing bus (24bit/96kHz) features seven onboard effects, including the all new In-Loop Sampler. It matches Pioneer's CDJ-200 CD turntable in both function and design, allowing DJs to expand the range of DJing and remixing. And its symmetrical design is the same size as a CDJ-200, enabling an easy fit in a compact DJ coffin.

An intelligent 24bit/96kHz sampler automatically detects the tempo of a song during playback, sampling it for a length of 4 beats then loops the sample. Since the sampled sound is in sync with the beat of the tune being played, no matter the tempo, it enables live remixing like never before. Samples are automatically stretched and compressed to match the beat. The DJM-400 stores five samples onboard for a total of 12 seconds of sample time.

Onboard effects automatically detect the beats per minute of the music and sync to the beats. The DJM-400 includes seven onboard effects: Delay, Echo, Filter, Flanger, Phaser, Robot and Roll. All effects are processed at 24bits for the highest quality sound. A new Beat Select button allows more intuitive and aggressive DJ playing and remixing. Each channel has 3-band isolator EQ with full cut capability. The EQ ranges from +9dB to -∞ (infinity) for total control of the sound.

Pioneer CDJ-200 Pro Cd/Mp3 Player Review

Pioneer CDJ-200 Pro Cd/Mp3 Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Many places (usually DJ phedophile type) label these players as entry level professional. You WILL think differently UNLESS you DJ in clubs! In my mind, these are professional players if you dont scratch, everything is there for you.
The build quality is excellent, solid robust, and use oil damping. Trust me oil damping shock makes a different, shake these things while theyre playing, they wont skip!
Auto cue and loop is excellent, plus manual in out and loop effects make this a really excellent machine for house breaks and playing your own mixes. To do a test, I auto looped 2 tracks both 128bp, synced using the BPP and tempo functions of the players, played both players through a mixer for 15 minutes, they never missed sync! very accurate BPM and tempo. And this was AUTO loop! imagine with manual, you have even more precision.
BPM is always an issue, due to its accuracy (some BPM counters are a gimmic, ie behringer VXM mixers! )however the BPM here performs very well, the players for the quality, are at an unbelievable price.
the MP3 function is great too, get 100 tracks on a cd instead of carrying your collection to a function, in 7 cd cases (like me!)
plus they fully read MP3 tags, what more do you want?
Wah, Jet, and zip effects are really nice, as is the addition of adjusting speed and key of a track
All round great players
Ive been a DJ for 17 years, seen everything come and go, theres no surprising these players are so popular!
awesome!

Pioneer DJM-2000 DJM-2000 Professional DJ Mixer Review

Pioneer DJM-2000 DJM-2000 Professional DJ Mixer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love this mixer. It's def next gen design. I kind of thinking of it like the Korg Zero 8 if it had a baby with Pioneer's DJM 800. I've only had 2 problems with it:
a. Price. There's no reason why anyone should be charging you more than $2500 for this piece of equipment. There's a demand/supply problem right now (Aug 2010) but still, this isn't a freaking Wii. Get a life scalpers. I kind of think $2500 is a bit much to ask for in crappy economic times (especially for DJ gear) but I guess I didn't mind it too much in the end.
b. It's not a piece of tech to not rehearse with. I know a lot of DJs who are frankly lazy and don't rehearse their gear. This is a piece you want to screw around with because like the EFX1000, theres TONS of stuff it does that isn't even in the feature set in the manual. In many ways it lets you do things even Traktor or Serato don't offer. The sampler is worth the price alone. The effects are totally robust. It's stable as a tank. But still most vids I've seen online and most DJs I've seen using it don't really use even 10% of the features so it makes me wonder why they paid $2500 for it and didn't just get a great mixer for half the price.
My one potential gripe is that I don't like people playing with it. The touch screen especially, I'm kind of nervous might give out one day so I don't really want anyone on it (for right now) whereas with some of my other gearI like to tag team and collaborate. This isn't the kind of piece I feel as confident about even though the build is very high quality.

Allen & Heath Xone:DB4 4 Channel Digital DJ Mixer With Effects Review

Allen and Heath Xone:DB4 4 Channel Digital DJ Mixer With Effects

Without a doubt the best club mixer currently available. It has individual BPM counters per channel even to .1 of a beat plus world class unique special effects. Also, a four bar looper with beat-sync per channel, which allows for tremendously flexibility. Furthermore, the frequency isolators and complete kill of highs, mids, and lows per channel is impressive. The only negative is the layout. It is a bit confusing, but very functional. Shoparound for the best price.

Numark CDX MP3-CD Turntable Review

Numark CDX MP3-CD Turntable
Average Reviews:

Ive had these for a while now. They are excelent quality better then the Denon's Dns-5000. The sound quality is clear, the interface is easy to get used to, and the effects are great. It plays both regular cd's, burned cd's and Mp3 cd's. The platter is extremely smooth and accurate so mixing is easy and has 4 diffrent scratch modes. The BPM counter respons right when you put the track and it has the capability to automatically interlock beats between one cdx and another for those who are just starting out. The search wheel is used for both effects(wet\dry) and super fast search.
Pros:
-Great sound
-Easy To Use
-Easy to get used to
-Very well built
-Everything is on cue
Cons:
-A little heavy

A unique solution for DJs who love the feel of vinyl but want to use their CDs for mixing and scratching, the Numark CDX CD turntable literally combines the best of both worlds. Unlike other CD turntables, which merely mimic the construction of traditional record players, the CDX uses a genuine 12-inch record as the controlling interface. In other words, the CDX not only looks like a turntable, but it actually feels like one as well. The CD responds to each movement of the 12-inch record whether you're scratching, battling, or looping, resulting in a DJ experience that harnesses modern digital formats while feeling as smooth and tangible as classic vinyl.
The CDX employs the same ultra-high-torque direct-drive motor as Numark's flagship TTX turntable, with adjustable start and stop times. It's also the same height as traditional turntables, and its dual start/stop buttons reside on either side of the platter, making it easy to position the turntable for "standard" or "battle" use. Among the CDX's shared CD/turntable features are impressive +/- 6, 12, 25, and 100 percent pitch control ranges; a key lock function that keeps vocals and music in the proper key even when the tempo increases dramatically; a built-in beatkeeper that delivers accurate and instant beat-per-minute readouts; and a DSP processor that lets DJs employ such effects as echo, slide, sonar, bleep, and filter--all controlled by a dedicated wheel. DJs can also activate the stutter function to instantly jump around within the track, or they can use the 3,000 cue points when loading a new CD to immediately access specific passages. And thanks to the quick-loading CD slot, DJs can swap out discs in no time at all.
Though Numark supplies a 12-inch LP for the slipmat, any record will do (it's the wheel that controls the CD, not the record). DJs can also synchronize the CDX with drum machines and other MIDI devices due to the MIDI I/O. Additional features include a S/PDIF digital output, a bright VFD display that shows beats per minute, time, and unit status, and anti-shock buffer technology. The CDX measures 17.75 by 3.62 by 14.5 inches (W x H x D) and is covered by a two-year warranty.

Vestax CDX05 CD/MP3 Scratch Player with Effects Review

Vestax CDX05 CD/MP3 Scratch Player with Effects
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just got one of these for a nice price. Kind of a goofy implementation.
No pitch bend when scratch is turned on, even though you have to push down to scratch and don't have to push down to bend. WTF?!
Even worse, the pitch bending by way of the platter (when scratch is off, due to the above idiocy) is cumulative: the longer you rotate, the more the bending increases. So even if you very slowly rotate, eventually you're at the full bend of +/- 10%. Dumb. I can't imagine any justification for that, except that maybe the software programmers took a shortcut and used the exact same code for the wheel as the pitch buttons. It makes mixing counter-intuitive.
50% pitch range is worthless. Should be 20 or 25%. It's already got 100% available, though the pitch resolution goes totally out the window in these ultra pitch modes. Essentially it's got the useable mixing range of an old CDJ-100, since only 6 and 10% work well enough... and the old Pioneer's pitch bending isn't bunk on the wheel.
If the unit is playing, holding the primary cue button does not play from the beginning, rather it just jumps back and stays... even though you hold. I get that tapping the primary cue should reset to it to that point (in Play cue mode), but that's because you released it. If you are already at the primary cue and the music isn't going, you hold cue (to play it), then hit play/pause, and it continues playing. That's very cool, but I don't understand the logic of not allowing this at any point during playblack. I almost wonder if the unit's memory is extremely limited, or something. I think the antishock is only 10 seconds, the 3 alternate cue points have a slight lag at times if you're in another spot, and there's only one loop and sampler... possible memory limitation.
I have not experienced any skipping so far, but I will torture the hell out of it with the subs soon. I had already paid for it when I found out that some units apparently cannot handle bass vibration well.
I only had one problem with reading a disk: an old [...] non-standard audio CD, back before they became some weird commercialized Napster clone. Numarks and Pioneers read it fine, but that's hardly worth getting in a tizzy over. I've ripped and reburned to try playing it again.
Otherwise, the unit has excellent fidelity for a CD unit, the vinyl filter can be switched on/off on the fly and really does sound more like certain phono cartridges when necessary (ATP on the Numark 5000fX, WL on the PPD01, etc), and the effects are surprisingly useable and production-quality.
I sent some emails to Vestax telling them how to improve the firmware on the 05 & 07 to fix some of its issues. Hopefully they are just software choices the programmers didn't think of and not hardware limitations. We'll see what happens.
Aside from Numark's reliability problems (which aren't slight), the Axis 8's are infinitely more ergonomic for mixing, and compared to the CDX-05 without the TTM thing, arguably not considerably worse for scratching. Unlike the Axis 8, the digital out works all the time and the frequency response is flat from the analog outs: no ramped-up high frequencies.
Update:
Doesn't play Dual Discs (one side DVD, other side CD), but in general many slot loading mechanisms don't. Tray loaders do have some utility, it turns out.
The CDX-05 is about as prone to skipping as the worse of the two Axis 8's I have, which isn't great, but is fairly acceptable. I tested this by physically putting them on top of a sub and cranking it. The other Axis 8 was almost impossible to cause it to skip except when I picked it up and violently shook it for an extended time. That lesser Axis 8 has occasionally been going into random loops or freezing on me lately, which is why I was in the market for another player. That, however, has not been the result of vibration as it occurred even with headphone mixing. If the Vestax is not seriously glitchy during normal useage (won't include playback on top of a subwoofer), then it will have acceptable anti-shock for my purposes.

Stanton C.324 Tabletop Cd Player With Slot Drive Review

Stanton C.324 Tabletop Cd Player With Slot Drive
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm DJ Krystoph and I want to review these Stanton C324 cd turntables. I had two purchased new and I used them for about 10 months. So, I am speaking from actual experience. As a DJ I always look for informative reviews on products any of us might buy.I bought these because like most of us I have a normal mans budget and Pioneers just weren't gonna happen. So the C324 seemed a great buy for the time. These players have major issues!!!!Run away from them!
1. They freeze up if they stay paused for more than 60secs...wtf!? I had to turn the unit off and then back on to reset them.
2. Totally inconsistent playback of any burned cds. I tried 6 different burning softwares and no difference. I never knew when they would read and not.
3.tendency to skip and jump on MP3 cds. Have no idea why.
4.Would simply stop playing an hour or two into a set and I would have to do the turn off then on thing again.
Need I say more?
In the spirit of fainess, they always read new store bought cds and the effects work great and all the time. But that hardly out ways the other issues. Thats my real life experience, I hope it helps.

Numark NDX400 Tabletop Scratch MP3/CD Player With USB Review

Numark NDX400 Tabletop Scratch MP3/CD Player With USB
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
1st off I've been dj'ing professionally for 13yrs. I recently moved to a new area and I'm setting up my mobile buisness as well as residenting at a club. I've carried vinyl around for a while now. Ever since archiving technology of vinyl to digital got better i started archiving. I'm a turntablist at heart and really can't afford shelling out a grand for bigger direct drive cdj's like denon's or standards like the cdj800's from pioneer.
I did a lot of research read reviews and really couldn't dig up much on these. So I took a gamble. I'm glad I did. Let me hit the high points.
Scratching on this unit is cheese. you don't have to worry about sample wandering around the platter. And even tho the platter's small it still feels right. If you haven't scratched on a CD player I'll tell you there's a learning curve with all of them. You just have to feel out your unit.
MP3 USB funtion. This is the greatest part of this unit. It tracks well. Picks up files fast, and never has a long lag time between track loads. Its pretty nice to carry my set for the night with me to the club around my neck on a couple of jump drives than it is to lug 100 plus lbs of records.
CD funtion. Very good. I've had no problems with the deck ejection like a previous review i've read. And if you read the manual the very number one thing listed is this unit is for "Finalized" CD's. Don't make the other guys rookie mistake. CD's load fast, and do not skip. I've ran this deck on a system pumping some high watts with enough vibration to make my feet numb at the end of the night and I've never encountered skipping.
All in all these are good jump from vinyl to CD. They've got an great easy layout. Versital to work into any setup. And easy to learn, and rehearse on. I do plan on trading up eventually to CDJ'800 or 1000, but for the price you can't beat this unit at all. I highly recommend this unit to everyone wanting to make the jump and looking for a good sturdy, performance capable unit.

Numark NDX800 Professional MP3/CD/USB Player And Controller Review

Numark NDX800 Professional MP3/CD/USB Player And Controller
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Numark NDX800 is a great piece of dj equipment. It functions as a cdj, a usb storage controller, and a midi controller. I primarily use mine with 4gb usb drives, with cd's in the loader for backup and haven't had any problems. I haven't tried the midi control function yet, but my understanding is it works best with traktor. The pitch controls are solid and it has a key lock so you can adjust the pitch without the vocalist sounding like a chip monk. It has a start and stop time controller to give it an authentic vinyl feel. It also has a reverse and bleep function, which is nice for when you're playing at places with kids or something where cursing wouldn't be appropriate. There are 2 loops you can have set up; they can be picked on the go. Also with the loops you can cut them down or extend theme, I love to cut it shorter and shorter so it gets louder and faster, putting in some great build up in to a song. There are 3 hot cue buttons to make cues on the fly; this is particularly great for those that like to do drumming with their songs. Lastly you can store 3, 5 second samples. The display is very well laid out and bright, and the controls to browse through songs are very functional and seamless. Also the unit has a bpm counter, which of course everyone loves to have. You can save cues so that when you load up a song again you can load previously set cues. On the FX side of things the unit has a good range of effects, echo, flanger, phaser, ect. You can control the intensity, frequency, and wet/dry. The buttons are very responsive, which is great because you don't want an unresponsive cue/play button. The jog wheel functions as both a pitch bender and a scratcher when put in vinyl mode; I'm not one for scratching but it seems great, with no drift and the jog wheel is a pretty good size. Unit also has a search mode to quickly move through a song. The cd loader is VERY fast and is a slot, with a little light over it, useful when playing in the dark. Also all the buttons are backlit. So far I've had a great time with my pair, and would recommend these to anyone, new or old because for the price you won't find any better.
